TAJ02: Qasīdat al-Sakhāwiyyah (Jan 2021)

This is the advanced course in tajwīd, and it also covers the philosophy and ethics of tajwīd. In this course, all topics of tajwīd are covered at an advanced level, as well as an introduction to the science of qirā-‘āt.

The course also discusses the differences of opinion on individual rules of tajwīd, such as making ikhfā’ thick or thin, and leaving the lips open or closed for iqlāb. We will cover a detailed analysis of the rules of tajwīd such as doing qalqalah on a fatḥah. This course is also a stepping-stone towards understanding the science of waqf and ibtidā’ (stopping and starting) as well as rasm al-khaṭ (the science of the writing of the Qur’ān).

Imam Sakhāwi (d. 558 H) was the direct student of imām al-Shātibi and was the first to write an explanation of the famous shātibiyyah poem.

Unlike tajwīd courses from other institutes, we will study the reasons for the various rules of tajwīd and the connections between tajwīd and Arabic grammar.

First class is January 9

Days: Saturdays from 12pm – 1pm Mountain Standard Time
