TAJ01: Muqaddamat al-Jazariyyah (September 2023)

Course Overview: Welcome to TAJ01, the introductory course to Tajwīd. This course serves as your entry into the world of Tajwīd, encompassing not only the technical aspects but also delving into the philosophical and ethical dimensions. Led by the teachings of Abu al-Khayr Shams al-Din Muhammad b. Muhammad b. Muhammad b. Ali b. Yusuf al-Jazarī (d. 1429/833) from his famous Muqaddamat al-Jazariyyah, the comprehensive curriculum covers the entirety of Tajwīd.

Guided by Masterful Explanations Throughout the course, we will follow the profound insights of Zakariyyah al-Ansarī’s Daqā’iq al-Muhkamah. Notably, Zakariyyah Ansarī was a disciple of not only Ibn al-Jazarī but also of Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalānī, al-Bulqinī, and Jalāl al-Dīn al-Mahallī, the renowned author of the Jalalayn Tafsīr.

A Revered Legacy Rekindled Reflecting on Ustadh Uthman Khan’s inaugural teachings of this text in 2001, he has chosen 2023 to reintroduce it, reviving the Tajwīd at Critical Loyalty to its original eminence. With over 50 instances of teaching this text, Ustadh Uthman Khan’s expertise is unmatched.

A Four-Month Voyage The course spans approximately four months and follows this structured itinerary:

  • September: Commencement and Exploration of the Book, Makhārij (Articulation Points), and Sifāt (Attributes).
  • October: In-depth Study of Tajwīd, Tafkhim and Tarqīq, Rā and Lām Rules, and Introduction to Idghām Saghīr.
  • November: Exploration of Dwād and Dhā , Mastery of Ghunnah , and In-depth Study of Madd.
  • December: Proficiency in Waqf  and Culmination of the Course.

Memorization: Gateway to Ijāzah For students who undertake the feat of memorizing the course text, the reward is an Ijāzah – a cherished certification denoting mastery of the material.

There is no Exam for this course. Only attendance is required.
