Ijāzah in Qur’ān Reading (Riwāyah Ḥafṣ)
This is an on-phone program in which a group of 8-10 students are assigned a one-hour time slot, once a week. The students conference call the teacher to read for attaining an ijāzah. The recitation resembles the in-person ḥalaqah system wherein students sit in a circle and recite to the teacher upon their turn – however, this ijāzah reading class is done over the phone.
In order to receive an ijāzah, students must complete the following:
- TAJ02 course (online)
- TAJ03 course (online)
- TAJ04 course (online)
- TAJ05 course (online)
- AS05 course (in-person)
- Recitation of the entire Qur’ān in Ḥafṣ ‘an ‘Āṣim (over the phone)
- Memorization of 10 juz’ of the Qur’ān
The reading is segregated by gender.
A pre-requisite for enrollment in the Ḥafṣ ‘an ‘Āṣim ijāzah program is that the student be able to recite the Qur’ān fluently.
Registration opens up in August and closes in September. The students attend classes and recite for one year, complete their recitation of the entire Qur’ān and receive their ijāzah in August of the following year. Students must attend the graduation event to receive their ijāzah. Also note that the AS05 course is only offered in-person during graduation week.
